EFFICIENCY IN THE MOUNTAINS ACROSS VARIOUS DISCIPLINES

is key in the pursuit of summits and adventures in wild environments

Joe is a mountain and adventure athlete, who is working towards becoming an IFMGA Guide de Haute Montagne in Chamonix, France. His passion is to share what he has learnt through years of hard work and development in the mountains with others, with a focus on efficiency, movement skills and safety.

As a multi-sport athlete, Joe combines techniques from various mediums to achieve his goals and aspirations; be that boulders or alpine north faces, big mountain ski lines or deep canyons, long alpine traverses or enduro descents.

From small bloc’s to high mountains.

Joe’s career in outdoor sports began at an early age, making the most of the terrain he grew up in, The Peak District in the UK, honing his skills on the blocs and short technical crags. Working through the grades, Joe progressed his climbing to an elite level, bouldering trad climbing and sport climbing to high levels. During this time he developed new routes around the Peak District, opening new, cutting edge routes up to a grade of E8 7a and boulders up to 7C+.

Whilst pushing his personal climbing limits, Joe also pursued a degree in Outdoor Adventure Sports Leadership and Coaching. Joe specialised in performance climbing coaching, working in detail on movement coaching and in adventure sports psychology. Joe also pursued a career in Rope Access construction and safety work.

After an injury prompted a shift in goals and objectives, Joe moved to the French Alps to develop his winter skills, and put his already honed techniques into a new terrain. After several years and a business based out of the ski resort of La Plagne with plenty of time to level up his skiing and splitboarding, Joe move to the valley of Chamonix with his eyes firmly fixed on the high mountains and all of the challenges that come with the varied and wild terrain. Joe has worked his way through an ever growing ticklist of alpine classics and esoteric gems. The high mountains are an ever changing environment and Joe has worked hard to learn and understand the rhythms to be able to form judgments and find good and safe conditions for some of the most sought after routes in the Alps.
